We had a ladder truck, air & light rig, at least one ambulance. I casually wandered down to the lobby, past the fire fighters suited up with air tanks and axes, and asked the Fire Chief what was up.

"Someone smelled smoke up on the 4th floor."
"Do I need to get my family ready to roll?"
"No, I think someone killed a caserole... we can't find anything now."
"I appreciate your overwhelming response!"
"You like that? We didn't want to get behind a hotel fire."

Nice guy. Calm.

I went back to the room for a good laugh with Gail. Then thought to take a couple of pictures.

We have been having a blast at Hockey Camp this week and it isn't over.  Here are a few images and a couple of videos from the first half of the week.  Honestly, I haven't been shooting as much as I'd like, but I have been there for most of the action.  I'm having too much fun watching and cheering to worry about shooting the pics and video.

The kids all seem to be having a blast.  Hockey is a FAST moving game, and training is equally fast paced.  The kids are constantly moving.  There isn't time to be bored on or off the ice.  There is a little bit of down time, but not a lot. 

One of the big challenges with hockey is the gear... as in getting kids into their gear for the ice sessions.  But, there are a bunch of coaches and they are helping with the kids... and there are a few parents that are staying throughout the day, they are in the locker rooms getting skates tied and gearing up the kids. 

And for MY little guy, he sure is tired at the end of the day...

All together I shot well over 200 pictures during the day...  Even with editing, I'm sure that between the car shows there are over 150 pics. 

Mud4Blood is a very family friendly event.  Kids, dogs, Moms and Dads can all come out, see some cool rides and talk with like-minded folks.  We usually have several 4x4 clubs from the Atlanta area represented, and that makes it a great place to find a club.  If you aren't a 4x4 person, we had a couple of non-4x4 clubs out this time...  Next year we will be working on building on the non-4x4 portion of the displays. 

But, donating blood is the real reason for the event...  And for every pint donated, there is the potential to SAVE 3 LIVES!

This was the 7th year for the GBR4wd Club's Mud 4 Blood event.  It has been a very popular event in the 4 wheel drive community since its inception, but this year also welcomed low-riders and a couple of street rods.  Godfather Customs, Hooters, Rugged Ridge and 4wheel Parts also had a presence. 

There were kids games, raffles, a silent auction and of course... a Blood Drive for LifeSouth.  This year the goal was 100 units of blood... and the early word is that we exceeded the goal.

The first Saturday in May each year sees the Smoke Rise Baptist Church Car Show.  So, after the morning's baseball game for Garrett, we headed across the parking lot to the car show to check out the rides.  This is always a cool show because it isn't focused on any type of niche.  There are rods, customs, late models, antiques, restorations and survivors. 

This year, because of the rest of the schedule for the day, we were only able to hang out for a little while.  Registration was open until noon, but we had to head out by 11:00am, so there were still cars showing up as we left.  And did I mention that it is free?  Even the registration is free.  There are a lot of shows that cost money to enter, but this isn't one of them... and that is one of the reasons for the cool variety. 

I tried to get a couple of shots of each car that was there before we left...  Enjoy.

Should I mention that I am a bit nervous with heights?  I won't say it... but I am.  However, I can sometimes deal with it enough to have fun... 

Garrett has wanted to do the Sky Hike at Stone Mountain Park for a while now.  So, for his birthday we took him out of school a few minutes early and took him to Crossraods Village at Stone Mountain Park so that he could give it a rip... and Gail and I could try it as well.  They were only open until 5:00pm... 

After getting suited up (HINT: Don't bring the camera, sunglasses, phone or anything else... they want your pockets empty.  Obviously I failed to follow all of the directions) we were off to Level I.  Both of the first two levels allow two choices for each obstacle area.  One of the choices is generally pretty easy (relatively), while the other has more challenge.  An example would be where the left side might be a 4" wide piece of wood on top of a stell beam, while the right side would be a rope challenge.  Sometimes there would be ropes on both sides... 

Level I wasn't too bad in the height department.  It is usually about 10' or so off the ground.  As mentioned, most of the obstacles weren't incredibly difficult, and the heights didn't make them seem that much worse...  There were a few that were a little tricky though.  And it all looks SO easy from the ground.  While standing in line we were getting a little chuckle out of some of the slow pokes on the ropes.  A few minutes later, we got to BE those slow pokes. 

Level II is a little taller... I'd say about 20'.  It might not seem like much, but what you are standing on a rope, it seems high enough.  There are still two options for each of the challenges... but sometimes the choices were between 'eek' and 'yikes'.

We didn't go for Level III.  It was already after 5:30 (closing time was 5:00).  Also, on the top level wasn't an option for the obstacles.  There was only one choice as to how to cross each chasm.  Being 30'+ off the ground made it all the more interesting.  We had seen enough adventure for the day... it was dinner time. 

Before leaving the park, we stopped into Crossroads Village.  Since the area was actually closed, it was all but deserted.  It was a great opportunity to shoot a few pictures of the village without a crowd of people wandering around.

This is kind of our farewell to Disney World. I love this show each time I see it. I am amazed that they shoot off tens of thousands of dollars in fireworks every night. I'll write some more when we are home. Thee have been some great times on the trip, as well as some challenges. Thanks for following along. Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile
